The Platform 10.1/10.2 :Pragmatic steps to moving Nigeria Forward / Understanding the New Global Economy
Registration for participation in the platform 10.1 and 10.2 is on and as has always been, registration for attendance remains free. The event which is organized by Covenant Christian Centre will take place in two venues simultaneously on the same day, the 1st of October, 2012.

Turkish woman awaits trial after beheading her alleged rapist
(CNN) -- A woman in Turkey is awaiting trial after
beheading a man who she says raped her repeatedly for months and is the
father of her unborn child. Her lawyer says the woman killed the man to
protect her honor.
Nevin Yildirim, a
26-year-old mother of two, lives in a small village in southwestern
Turkey. She said the man, Nurettin Gider, began the attacks a few days
after her husband left in January for a seasonal job in another town,
according to a source close to the case.
Yildirim said Gider
threatened her with a gun and said he would kill her children, ages 2
and 6, if she made any noise, according to the source. That was the
first of repeated rapes over the next eight months, the source said.

Visa 2012: U.S. lists Nigeria, Brazil, China, as priority nations
Neary told newsmen in Abuja at the country’s Embassy weekly briefing that more than 40,000 visa applications had so far been processed in Nigeria this year.
She said that the figure represented 11 per cent increase over the 2011 fiscal year.
Neary said 75 per cent of the applications were for tourist visas, while 25 per cent accounted for student, business and official visas.
She said that a majority of the applicants were granted visas.
The consular officer warned applicants against patronising touts and expressed the Embassy’s commitment to continue to provide consular services to Nigerians, and as well reduce the wait time.

N5000 Notes not for You Masses – Minister
As the controversies surrounding the proposed introduction of N5000 notes into the country continues, a federal minister has cleared the air on some of the complaints of the masses. According to the National Planning Minister, Shamsudeen Usman, the proposed N5000 note will not be for mass circulation. He said the N5,000 note would be reserved for banks and heavy cash users.
The
minister made this clear during an interview with the State House
Correspondents after the meeting of the Economic Management Team (EMT) presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
It was during this same meeting that the Federal Government formally
endorsed the introduction of the note despite the criticism that has
greeted its introduction..

Swaziland is a small landlocked country in southern Africa- ruled by the
continent’s last absolute monarch. The reed dance which takes place
yearly is the most well-known cultural event in the country and only
childless, unmarried girls can take part. The aims of the ceremony are
to preserve girls’ chastity, provide tribute labour for the Queen
mother, and to encourage solidarity by working together.
This
year’s event as is with every other one, saw thousands of bare-breasted
young Swazi women parade themselves in front of their king in a lavish
ceremony. Dressed in beaded skirts, clutching machetes and mobile phones,
women and girls danced and sang tributes to the king and queen mother –
also known as the Great She-Elephant – in a traditional Umhlanga Reed
Dance to celebrate womanhood and virgïnity.

Earth-quake (Magnitude 7.9) strikes northwestern Costa Rica
A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Costa Rica on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The major quake near the Pacific coast was centered about 50 miles south of Liberia, Costa Rica, and was at a depth of 12.4 miles.
A Caribbean-wide tsunami watch is in effect, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.."Earthquakes of this size have the potential to generate a widespread destructive tsunami that can affect coastlines across the entire Caribbean region," the warning center said.

Mysterious Thunder Strikes Two Brothers Dead In Benue State
TRAGEDY
struck in Ioryiir village, Tse Agbragba, headquartres of Konshisha
Local Government Area of Benue State, when it lost two brothers of the
same parents to a thunder strike at the weekend.
Nigerian tribune gathered that the brothers, who were in their 20s, Aondohemba Torto and Aondongu Torto, died instantly..
The victims, according to a source, were returning home from a construction work in the company of one of their brothers and two friends and made a stopover to watch a local football match at LGEA primary sschool, Iorkyiir, when the incident occurred.
The two brothers, who were students of College of Education, Katsina-Ala, died on the spot, while the three others, Sonter and Ortiv Torto, as well as Joseph Yarkwan, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The father of the deceased, Mr Angwe Torto, expressed saddness over the disaster, which he attributed to the will of God and prayed for the repose of their souls.
